Keep prevailing wage: Don't be fooled by lying petitioners
Date Posted: September 15 2017
With the summer season winding down, petition gatherers are still at work in public places around the state, asking for signatures to repeal the Michigan Prevailing Wage Act of 1965.
Don’t be fooled: decline to sign. Petition gatherers can say just about anything to get you to sign their document: state law does not forbid petitioners from lying and then offering you a pen.
“They were out in force at the Jazz Fest tonight, and hit me with the claim that they wanted to PROTECT prevailing wages. I almost bit, then I remembered the “Decline To Sign” campaign. They are playing dirty pool,” wrote one Facebook poster on Sept. 2.There are several other petitions being circulated, one of which involves the legalization of medical marijuana and another setting up an independent citizen’s redistricting commission for pubic lawmakers’ district boundaries.
We continue to urge our members and their families to read the fine print at the top of any petition document, before signing.
